On Monday, Saint Lucia’s National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) issued an advisory, informing residents and motorists in areas prone to flooding and landslides to exercise caution.

The advisory also urged residents to stay alert to the Saint Lucia Meteorological Services weather updates by visiting www.slumet.gov.lc and  heed important instructions and information from NEMO.

According to the Saint Lucia Meteorological Services weather report, moisture and instability associated with a strong westward-moving tropical wave will cause cloudiness, scattered showers, gusty winds, and thunderstorms over portions of our region during the next 24 hours.

At 11:00 a.m., the disturbance was near latitude 15.1 North and longitude 55.6 West, or about 370 miles or 590 kilometers east-northeast of Saint Lucia.

The movement toward the west was near 26 mph or 43 km/h and is expected to continue with a slight decrease in forward speed over the next couple of days.

On the forecast track, weather officials expect the disturbance to move across portions of the Leeward Islands late Monday night or Tuesday and approach the U.S. and British Virgin Islands Tuesday night.

Maximum sustained winds with higher gusts are near 35 mph or 55 km/h.

Tropical Storm Warnings have been issued for the Islands from Guadeloupe northward to portions of the British Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
