Prime Minister Hon. Philip J. Pierre on behalf of the Cabinet of Ministers and the government and people of Saint Lucia, extend condolences to the families and loved ones of Mr. David Samuels (SLMM) who recently passed away.

Mr. Samuels dedicated 56 years of his life to broadcasting and related fields – tourism, entertainment, and civic duty. Many will remember the early days of his career when he was known as Dave the Rave.

He was mentored by Winston Hinkson and became a sensational radio personality. At the same time, he made a name for himself as the lead singer of the Tru Tones, which was led by Winston’s brother, Ronald Boo Hinkson, during its formative years.

In the field of broadcasting, Mr. Samuels will be most remembered for his distinct voice and later his unique interviewing style. On Radio St. Lucia, he hosted the show “Coffee Break” and “Mr. Chairman” on Calabash TV.

Mr. Samuels had a hand in shaping the careers of many younger media professionals by establishing David Samuels Productions (DSP), the first public relations and television production company in Saint Lucia. Several individuals who began their careers with DSP have since gone -on to start their own media businesses.

The Government of Saint Lucia acknowledges the recent honouring of Mr. Samuels by the Media Honours Society as a trailblazer for his long and outstanding legacy in broadcasting, media, and related fields.

Rest in peace, son of the soil.
