Social Transformation Officer with the Ministry of Equity, Social Justice, and Empowerment David Moise, recently joined the Gros Islet Club 60 in honoring Mrs. Catherine Alexis for her outstanding community service.
The celebration took place on February 4, 2024, featuring a church service followed by a lunch and award ceremony at the Gros Islet Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC).
Among the attendees were His Worship Lennox Dupal, Mayor of Gros Islet, and Ms. Helen Charles, Chairperson for HelpAge Saint Lucia National Council for Older Persons.
Mrs. Catherine Alexis, affectionately known as Miss Cato, was recognized for her long-standing dedication to community welfare, particularly through her involvement with Gros Islet Club 60.
As a founding member, she has organized visitations to shut-ins and led prayer sessions, embodying the spirit of community care.
In addition to her work with Club 60, Mrs. Alexis has served her community as a seamstress for over three decades, providing outfits for special occasions and uniforms for students, including those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Her philanthropic efforts extend to sewing outfits for friends and family, often donating them to those in need.
Mrs. Alexis’ contributions also include roles in the St. Joseph the Worker Church Choir and the Gros Islet Soup Kitchen, where her singing and cooking bring comfort and nourishment to those she serves.
Her tireless advocacy for older persons and dedication to community well-being make Mrs. Alexis a deserving recipient of this community award.
Gros Islet Club 60, a non-profit NGO, stands as a pillar of support and advocacy for individuals aged 40 and over, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met within the community.
The Ministry of Equity, Social Justice and Empowerment commends Mrs. Alexis for being the embodiment of the spirit of volunteerism and encourages others to follow her example.
