The recent rise in road accidents and fatalities has sparked concern among three of the nation’s leaders. At Monday’s pre-cabinet press briefing, Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre, Health Minister Moses Jn Baptiste and Minister for Culture and Tourism Dr Ernest Hilaire highlighted this issue as one the public must not take lightly. As of late July 2026, Saint Lucia has recorded 16 road fatalities. These deaths involve promising young Saint Lucians, as young and inexperienced drivers are often both perpetrators and victims of reckless driving. These tragic accidents cause the loss of the nation's most important asset: its human capital.
