The Dennery Minibus Drivers Association has announced a new system for Route 2C, which serves customers traveling between Dennery and Castries.
Later this month, the new system will become effective, introducing designated bus stops in both Dennery and Castries to ensure regular and reliable service for passengers.
According to Dennery Minibus Drivers Association President Curtis Mathurin, the system addresses an ongoing issue of bus absence from both communities during mid-morning hours.
“This will help both passengers and bus drivers as we have a situation where buses are missing at both communities between the hours of 10-11 am because there are not many buses on the streets of Dennery,” Mathurin told St. Lucia Times.
The association hopes to create a more dependable service for passengers by establishing and maintaining a consistent schedule.
The trial period for the new system will start on Monday, November 11, 2024, operating initially between 8 am and 12 pm.
During this time, buses will follow the set stops in both Dennery and Castries, allowing drivers to maintain a full load of passengers and improve route efficiency.
While the system has received majority support from bus drivers, Mathurin acknowledged that some disagree.
“Although there are some disagreements with bus drivers on both sides, the majority is in favor,” he stated.
Additionally, some passengers have expressed concerns, though the association believes these will be addressed once the system proves its effectiveness.
The association plans to provide the community with a complete explanation, and its representatives plan to go to the media next week to make an official announcement, ensuring the public is fully informed before the trial period begins.
