On Tuesday, Taiwan, through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressed condolences to the Saint Lucia government on the death of Saint Lucian educator Leonard Robinson.
Robinson was found dead in Taipei earlier this month.
On Monday, an unnamed source told Taiwan’s Central News Agency (CNA) that the Saint was lying on the ground on section 1 of downtown Taipei’s Dunhua South Road.
He was pronounced dead after being rushed to a nearby hospital.
According to CNA’s unnamed source, prosecutors found no signs of foul play after an autopsy and determined that Robinson died from an illness.
The Saint Lucian national was in Taiwan for a short-term Mandarin training program at the Foreign Ministry’s Institute of Diplomacy and International Affairs (IDIA).
Winston Chen, president of IDIA, expressed the Ministry’s condolences to Saint Lucian Ambassador Robert Kennedy Lewis after learning about Robinson’s death.
Taiwan’s ambassador to Saint Lucia also expressed his condolences to Saint Lucia’s Education Minister, Shawn Edward.
In a Facebook post, Saint Lucia’s Education Ministry expressed profound sadness at Robinson’s passing, describing him as “our esteemed Modern Foreign Language Curriculum Officer with the Curriculum and Materials Development Unit (CAMDU).”
“A passionate advocate for language education and cultural exchange, Mr. Robinson’s dedication and expertise shaped the teaching and learning of modern foreign languages in our schools,” the Ministry observed.
It also noted his humility, compassionate spirit, and unwavering commitment to excellence that touched the lives of colleagues, educators, and students.
