One of Saint Lucia’s beloved female vocalists, Nicole David, was recently diagnosed with cancer. The singer is currently navigating the road to recovery that can sometimes not only be painful but very expensive.
Last week, her friends and supporters gathered at the Breadfruit Tree House in Gros Islet for a Karaoke event aimed at raising much need funds for her medical care. Patrons were invited to sing and pledge their financial support towards the cause.
One of the organisers and a friend of Nicole David, Carmy Joseph, told St. Lucia Times that the event went extremely well.
“We were really overwhelmed with the number of people who turned up to support Nicole and to raise funds for her. But what was equally special about the event was that it allowed everyone who wishes her well and who wanted her to know that, to be in the same space,” Joseph said.
According to organisers, despite the fact that the mood was a bit heavy and somber at times, generally the event turned out to be a joyous and celebratory affair.
“We had people singing and dancing to her music and at some points on the night she was video called so that she could see what was happening. Others went “live” on their devices, so she was able to follow, as well as her fans overseas who could not be there with us and this made her quite emotional,” Joseph says.
The organisers would like to thank Anon who manned the Karaoke station, the many who turned out to participate as well as the Saint Lucian entertainers who showed up to sing and encouraged others to pledge.
They included Imran Nerdy, Ricky T, Ezra, Ti Blacks, Patsy Cadet, Lady Leen, Black Pearl, Teddyson John, Q-Pid, Mantius, Sergie and Kisha.
Kisha performed “Its Carnival,” a song that features Nicole and which they performed together at Soca Monarch in July, Nicole’s last appearance on a national stage.
In the end, the karaoke event was able to raise a total of $11680.94.

“Nicole continues to fight and we appreciate the funds and fund raising efforts but also important is that we all continue to pray for her and to send positive energy and good vibes her way so that she will be strong enough to continue the fight. This is a very painful disease, so she has had periods of intense pain but she is very strong and is surrounded by loved ones and people who wish her well,” Carmy Joseph told St. Lucia Times.
