I stumbled upon a 2010 video appealing for assistance for the victims of hurricane Tomas in October that year. Appearing in the video and singing, “Saint Lucia dry your tears, wipe your eyes, it’s time to come together,” was Nicole David and other artistes.

On November 28, that year Nicole and several others, freely gave of their time at a benefit concert for the victims.

Fourteen years later, friends of Nicole David and the singer herself are appealing to the public to now come to her assistance.

Nicole David was recently diagnosed with the dreaded Cancer disease, was hospitalised and later discharged. However, the road to any possible recovery will be a long, arduous and expensive one. Last weekend the singer circulated a two-minute video, with an update on her situation.

“As you know or may not know for those of you just finding out I have been diagnosed with cancer,” the singer started off by saying.

“I just wanted everybody to know what my progress is right now because I know everybody has been asking, you know, and that I am so grateful for all the support, all the love, you know, I never knew that I was loved that much and I thank you guys so much,” she stated.

“However I have to do chemo in Saint Lucia because of the possibility of blood clot if I travel presently, so right now we are doing that first set of chemo and then we gonna see if I can travel to Martinique or other possible places,” Nicole said.

She disclosed that an ongoing GoFundMe organised by Giselle Brown is legitimate, and urged people to support by donating whatever little they could. The singer said she can also be contacted via her social media accounts.

“Whatever you can give goes a long way because chemo and all the little things they have to do to get the body back on track is very expensive,” she says.

Additionally, friends and supporters of the singer have organized a Karaoke fundraiser slated for Sunday December 1.

The event will occur at the Breadfruit Tree House in Gros Islet from 4 pm. Attendees are asked to sing or request a song while making a financial pledge to Nicole.

Born in Saint Lucia, Nicole David first performed with the band DN5 and released the song “Put Your waist into it” in 1998. She followed this up with a number of hits including “Jabbal”, “Queen of the Jungle,”  “Mate” and the Christmas song “All I Want is You”.

Nicole, more affectionately known as Nikki, made history when she became the first female to ever win a road march title in 2005.

An accomplished vocalist, in 2009 she performed at Saint Lucia Jazz sharing the stage with Patti La Belle, Chaka Chan and George Duke.

Nicole exited the Soca stage several years ago to focus on her Karaoke business and other endeavours.

This year, she made a brief return to the Soca stage appearing alongside Kisha at the Soca Monarch finals in July, doing the song “It’s Carnival Again”.

Besides the GoFundMe appeal an account has been set up at CIBC First Caribbean in the name of Nicole David.
