On Friday, January 24, 2025, the Government of Montserrat released a statement saying that the Ministry of Health and Social Services had signed a contract for Phase 3, also called Main Hospital, of the New National Hospital of Montserrat project.

According to the statement, the contract for delivery of this facility has been awarded to the Saint Lucia-based construction company, Construction & Industrial Equipment (CIE) Ltd.

On Friday, representatives of CIE signed the EC$102.8 million contract and work is expected to begin in April 2025, following an initial mobilisation phase starting in March.
“This important milestone marks the beginning of the construction of a 75,000+ square foot, state-of-the-art healthcare facility that will provide world-class services to the people of Montserrat,” the Government statement said.

The New National Hospital will feature a diagnostics and treatment center, pharmacy, catering and laundry facilities, sterilization areas, patient wards, birthing center, operating theater, laboratory, mortuary, administrative offices, as well as on-call rooms, a plant room, and maintenance facilities.

Additionally, the hospital will provide sixty-three parking spaces.

The project is slated for completion within two years and is funded by the UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office’s Capital Investment Programme for Resilient Economic Growth and the Governor’s Office in Montserrat.

CIE is also the contractor for the St. Jude Hospital Reconstruction Project in Saint Lucia.
