Saint Lucian national goalkeeper and Cavalier SC’s number one, Vino Barclett, stood tall between the posts in a high-profile clash against Major League Soccer giants Inter Miami during the CONCACAF Champions Cup Round of 16 first leg on Thursday.

While the fixture did not feature eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi, it still boasted a star-studded lineup, including Luis Suárez, once regarded as the world’s best striker, and seasoned left-back Jordi Alba.

Barclett’s team, the Jamaica Premier League champions, ultimately fell 2-0 to their USA-based opponents, but they put up a spirited fight, particularly in the first half, where they forced multiple saves from Inter Miami’s goalkeeper.

Despite the loss, Barclett’s presence on such a grand stage is a testament to his rapid rise and outstanding form in recent years.

The Vieux Fort native, who has represented Saint Lucia at all age-group levels, has been enjoying a stellar run of success. He was named Best Goalkeeper in the CFU Caribbean Cup last year, an achievement that further solidified his reputation as one of the region’s top shot-stoppers. More recently, he helped guide Cavalier SC to Jamaican Premier League glory in the 2023–24 season, cementing his status as a key player in regional football.

With his performances gaining increasing recognition, Barclett continues to fly the Saint Lucian flag high on the international stage. As his journey unfolds, many football enthusiasts eagerly anticipate his next chapter—whether it be another club triumph, a deep Champions Cup run, or a starring role for Saint Lucia’s national team.
