The National Tennis Centre in Beausejour will be bustling in the coming weeks. Following the Easter camp and holiday tournament, senior male players will gear up as the Saint Lucia Tennis Association (SLTA) prepares for its return to Davis Cup action.

Ranked 147th in the world, Saint Lucia finished at the bottom of Pool B in last year’s Group IV event in Trinidad & Tobago. The national team had made its long-awaited return to the global men’s team competition for the first time since 2006. This year, Saint Lucia will once again compete in Americas Group IV.

The 2024 squad was led by player-captain Vernon Lewis, the nation’s most decorated player, alongside Jordan Hunte, Maxx William, and Alberton Richelieu.

“After making our long-awaited return last year, we are committed to maintaining our presence on the international stage and ensuring that Saint Lucia is always represented at this prestigious event,” the SLTA said in a statement.

This year’s Davis Cup playoffs will run from May 9–16, and the association has issued an open invitation for players to make their case for selection. National training will begin on May 19, with the final team chosen based on playoff performances, ensuring only the best and most dedicated earn the honour of representing Saint Lucia.

“The journey to the Davis Cup demands dedication, teamwork, and an unwavering sense of national pride,” said the Association. “Whether as a player striving for selection, a coach guiding our athletes, or a supporter cheering from the sidelines, every contribution matters in making this campaign a success.

“Last year’s participation was a moment of immense pride, marking our return to Davis Cup competition after a long hiatus. Now, we are determined to make our presence permanent on the international scene. We invite all eligible candidates to step forward, train hard, and compete for their chance to represent Team Saint Lucia.”

Saint Lucia first participated in the Davis Cup as part of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States team. Competing independently, the nation’s best performances came in 2003 and 2005, finishing eighth in the American Zone Group III.
