On Tuesday, Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre paid tribute to male role models as Saint Lucia joined the global observance of International Men’s Day.

“Cheers to all the men who contribute significantly to our society by being wholesome role models, taking care of their families, and serving our communities,” Pierre stated.

He also issued a call to action for men to prioritise their health.

In this regard, the Saint Lucia Prime Minister emphasised the importance of maintaining both physical and mental well-being, noting, “As we celebrate one another, let us commit to taking care of our mental and physical health.”

Highlighting the government’s efforts to support men’s health, Pierre announced, “Under the Universal Healthcare Coverage (UHC), I encourage you to take advantage of the Prostate Cancer Screening, which will commence on Monday, December 2, 2024, at Health Centres islandwide.”

Also on the occasion of  International Men’s Day, Parliamentary Representative for Choiseul-Saltibus, Bradly Felix, highlighted the role of men as inspirational figures and community pillars. “Today, we celebrate the men in our lives—the fathers, brothers, uncles, sons, friends, mentors, and colleagues—who inspire us with their strength, compassion, and resilience,” Felix expressed.

He stated the importance of acknowledging their impact, saying, “Let’s honor their contributions to family, community, and society, while encouraging open conversations about health, well-being, and the importance of kindness.”

In addition, Felix extended his gratitude to men striving to make a positive impact: “To every man striving to grow, support, and lead with integrity, we see you, we appreciate you, and we celebrate you!”

The Saint Lucia Marketing Board used the occasion to highlight the critical contributions of men in agriculture. “This International Men’s Day, we honor the hardworking men in agriculture who are the backbone of our nation’s food security,” the board shared in a statement.

The Board acknowledged the essential role these men play, saying, “Your dedication fuels our mission at the Saint Lucia Marketing Board to connect farms to families. Thank you for your tireless efforts in growing and sustaining our agricultural sector.”

The St. Lucia Planned Parenthood Association also marked the occasion by highlighting the importance of positive male role models and addressing key issues affecting men.

International Men’s Day recognises and honours the invaluable contributions of men across families, communities, and society.

This year, local leaders and organisations took the opportunity to celebrate the men who inspire strength, compassion, and resilience, while emphasising the importance of health and well-being.
