The Standing Finance Committee of the House of Assembly has approved the Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure for the 2025/2026 fiscal year, which Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Philip J. Pierre will present on Tuesday evening.

Chaired by Speaker of the House Claudius J. Francis, the committee convened earlier on Tuesday to scrutinise the proposed budget in accordance with the Constitution of Saint Lucia and the Standing Orders of the House.

According to a statement from the Office of the Prime Minister, during the session, committee members were given the opportunity to question the Minister for Finance on the figures presented.

On Monday, Prime Minister Pierre said he would present Saint Lucia’s largest-ever budget, totalling $2 billion.

He will lay the approved Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure before the House of Assembly at 5 p.m. today. The debate is scheduled for Thursday and Friday, at 10 a.m.

Leader of the Opposition Allen Chastanet is expected to open the response to the budget proposal.

Following the debate, the Appropriations Bill—outlining the government’s financial policies and expenditure plans—will be presented by the Finance Minister on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. A subsequent debate on the bill will take place on Thursday, April 24, and Friday, April 25, 2025.

The approval of the 2025/2026 budget estimates is a key milestone in Saint Lucia’s fiscal policy, setting the framework for economic planning and government expenditure in the upcoming year.
