United Workers Party (UWP) candidate for Micoud North, Elisha Norbert, has proposed an initiative to provide senior citizens in the constituency with free transportation to healthcare centres.
Speaking at a UWP meeting in Micoud South on Sunday, Norbert shared his vision for a council-operated ride service to assist elderly residents.
“Just imagine an Uber service that can take you to the health centre. You make a call, somebody from the council answers, you say, ‘I need to book a ride for my mother, for my grandmother, to the health centre.’ The car pulls up to your house, takes your grandmother there, and brings her back home,” Norbert told supporters.
Beyond transportation, Norbert outlined a broader vision for Micoud North, emphasising the importance of love in leadership.
“When I was endorsed, I preached love because that is where it begins. That is the only way we can cherish the land that we have. That is the only way we can invest in our people freely, wholeheartedly,” he said.
Norbert stressed the need to put people first, adding, “The secret to our success is to invest in the resources that we have—our land, our people, and the light of our people, and the light that God has blessed us with.”
He also spoke about strengthening ties between Micoud North and South, revealing plans to collaborate with UWP leader and Micoud South MP, Allen Chastanet, to improve the movement of people, goods, and services between the two constituencies.
Norbert encouraged UWP supporters to embrace unity and compassion, stating, “Let us love one another. That’s how we are going to serve one another, and that is how we are going to save this beautiful country of ours.”
