Terrance Chandler, convicted on a firearm possession charge in 2023, appeared before the First District Court on Thursday to request more time to pay a court-imposed fine.
On May 23, 2024, Chandler was fined $15 000, with a 12−month payment deadline set for May 23, 2025.
So far, he has only paid $660, leaving a balance of $14 340.
Chandler cited unemployment as the primary reason for falling behind on payments, explaining that he is actively job hunting and hopeful about securing work at a local hotel. He asked for an additional 10 months to pay the remaining amount.
Magistrate Trotman denied his full request. “No, that is not possible,” she said bluntly. “I suggest you get two jobs.”
Instead, the court granted Chandler a limited six-month extension, requiring him to pay the full fine by November 30, 2025. Failure to comply could result in a custodial sentence.
