The Iyanola Council for the Advancement of Rastafari and Pan African People (ICAR) is set to attend a significant conference hosted by the United Nations Permanent Forum for Persons of African Descent in Bridgetown, Barbados on Thursday
The conference, scheduled to take place at the Hilton Hotel, will focus on the draft United Nations Declaration on the promotion and full respect of the human rights of people of African descent.
ICAR said it is honored to have received an invitation to participate in the conference that brings together civil society organisations from across the Caribbean region to engage in critical discussions.
“As an organisation, ICAR sees this invitation as a chance to represent not only their mission but also the people of their country, where a large majority of the population is of African descent,” ICAR President Aaron Alexander stated.
Alexander observed that ICAR’s involvement in the international forum comes at a significant time, as the organisation’s Education Committee is actively engaging with local secondary schools to discuss African history.
The conversations, which will continue into the new year, aim to educate and raise awareness about the African diaspora’s rich legacy.
“This upcoming United Nations Conference will further strengthen our resolve to continue to advocate for our freedom and promotion of respect of our human rights as a Rastafari and Pan African people community,” said Alexander.
ICAR’s participation will be led by its president, Aaron ‘Ras Iron’ Alexander. He will depart the island on Wednesday and return on Friday.
The United Nations Permanent Forum on People of African Descent is funding the trip.
