Claude John appeared before Magistrate Raquel Willie-Trotman on Thursday, on an indictable charge of committing grievous harm against Curtis Paul on New Year’s Day.

The alleged incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. in Barre St Joseph, Castries.

John informed the court that he could not afford legal representation because of financial difficulties. The charge was read to him, and he confirmed that he understood.

Magistrate Willie-Trotman said the matter has been escalated to the High Court for a sufficiency hearing.

The court prosecutor, Corporal Chicot, informed the court that the case file was missing a medical report, and the virtual complainant in the matter, Paul, had visited the hospital to obtain medical bills.

The magistrate ordered that disclosure be submitted by April 18. The case was adjourned to May 2, 2025.
