Haitian To Be Deported In Baby Shaking Case

CaribWorldNews, FORT LAUDERDALE, FL, Weds. May 13, 2009: A 54-year-old Haitian woman has chosen to return to Haiti instead of serving further jail time in the U.S. in a baby shaking case.

Nelly Rose Joseph, 54, originally faced a first-degree murder charge and the possibility of life in prison for the Jan. 23, 2003, death of 10-month-old Fierra Dorelus.
But under a plea bargain based on a diagnosis that Jospeh is `borderline retarded,` prosecutors agreed to downgrade the charge to manslaughter. She will now receive credit for the six years served and be returned to Haiti.
