Guyana Reassigns Top Female Cop Amidst Torture Scandal


CaribWorldNews, GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Tues. Nov. 17, 2009: Guyana`s top female cop has been reassigned following claims that two officers under her command tortured a 14-year-old suspect.

Paulette Morrison, according to Guyana news reports, was transferred to a desk job from her position as west coast division chief who also had command of the Leonora Police station.

Morrison`s reassignment comes days after two officers were charged with torturing the teenager by dousing his genitals with alcohol and setting him on fire.

The teen, whose last name has only been released as Thomas, remains hospitalized. The incident has been condemned both nationally and internationally and the horrific and gruesome images of the burnt minor have made its way around the world, eliciting outrage.

Nationals are still awaiting an official probe into the incident as ordered by the President of Guyana.
