The Millennium Heights Medical Complex( MHMC), which encompasses the OKEU Hospital and the Wellness Centre here, has a new man at the helm.
As of November 1, 2024 the operations at the facility, are being managed by Damian Greaves who will serve as CEO.
Greaves is a former Parliamentarian and Minister of Government having served in the Government between 1997-2009.
He is a former Minister for Community Development, Culture, Local Government, Cooperatives and Ecclesiastical Affairs (1997-2001) and Minister for Health, Human Services, Family Affairs and Gender relations from 2001-2006.
Greaves’ appointment comes at a time went the island’s main medical facility has been in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.
The OKEU has seen the resignation of at least six key medical professionals in recent months, among them Dr. Merle Clarke who is the head of the Saint Lucia Medical and Dental Association (SLMDA).
The SLMDA had also written to the Government recently, addressing a number of concerns, some of which reflected the feelings of the public.
Among the concerns were shortages of medical supplies, inadequate beds as well as inadequate space in the emergency room. Some medical professionals also appeared to be at loggerheads with the board of MHMC facility.
Damian Greaves who is a former professor at the St. Georges University in Grenada is a former director of the Healthy Caribbean Coalition and sat on the National Advisory Board for National Health Insurance in Grenada.
He also chaired the Grenada National Commission on Non-Communicable Diseases.
