Saint Lucia is exploring a new market with cultural similarities and French heritage—New Orleans.

Spearheaded by Hon. Dr. Ernest Hilaire, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism, Investment, Creative Industries, Culture, and Information, the delegation includes:

-H.E. Darrel Montrope, Consul General of Saint Lucia to Miami

-Thaddeus M. Antoine, Chairman of the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority

-Dexter Percil, Head of Marketing, Saint Lucia Tourism Authority.

During their visit, they engaged with influential figures, including Kevin Furgeson, Vice President of External Affairs for New Orleans & Company, which manages tourism marketing for the city, and Marilyn LaForce, President and Founder of Friends of Culture/Bayou Bacchanal.

The vibrant New Orleans Jazz and Saint Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival were key topics in the cultural exchange discussions, focusing on how Saint Lucia can feature its jazz artists and musicians at the New Orleans event, while also welcoming those from New Orleans to Saint Lucia.

A significant aspect of these discussions was the potential for collaboration between New Orleans’ lively Mardi Gras celebrations and the renowned Lucian Carnival.

Both events highlight rich cultural traditions and artistic expressions, making them ideal platforms for blending audiences and enhancing the appeal of Lucian Carnival.

Through this partnership, both destinations can create a richer, more diverse festival experience that celebrates their shared heritage and attracts international visitors.

The delegation also met with Mayor LaToya Cantrell of New Orleans, discussing opportunities for collaboration and cultural exchange between the two regions. This meeting aimed to strengthen ties and explore joint initiatives that could enhance tourism and celebrate their shared heritage.
