In 2021, long-time secretary general of the Saint Lucia Olympic Committee, Alfred Emmanuel, replaced former president Fortuna Belrose at the helm of the organisation. Four years later, and after the most momentous year in Saint Lucian Olympic history, Emmanuel has been retained as president for a further quadrennium.
The SLOC held its annual general meeting on Wednesday at Olympic House in La Clery, still celebrating the attainment of the nation’s first two medals since first participating in the Summer Games in Atlanta in 1996. Julien Alfred’s gold in the women’s 100m and silver in the 200m have the organisation in a buoyant mood. The federation also held its leg of the Commonwealth Baton Relay this week, adding to the festive mood.
Emmanuel and almost his entire team were reinstated at Wednesday’s elective congress, with the notable exception of long-serving treasurer Joyce Huxley, who has migrated abroad. She is replaced in that position by Helena Renee Emmanuel, a former national athlete who served as Chef de Mission for the Olympic Games in Paris last year. Renee Emmanuel is an accountant by profession.
Emmanuel, who had served more than two decades as secretary general, is joined by George Charlemagne as first vice-president and Trevor Hunte as second vice-president. Theodore ‘Teddy’ Matthews is secretary general, and Shayne Felicien is assistant secretary general.
Also returning as national federation representatives are Saint Lucia Boxing Association president David Christopher, Lily Bergasse of the Saint Lucia Sailing Association, Cornelius Breen from the Saint Lucia Athletics Association, and Marcia Dudley of the Saint Lucia Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation.
Dr Christopher Beaubrun and Carol Devaux were installed as honourary members.
President of the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees, Keith Joseph congratulated the newly elected board of the Saint Lucia Olympic Committee and wished them well in their tenure.
