District 8 Dominates Primary Schools Road Race

The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports concluded its primary school sports programme for the first term of 2024-2025 with the inter-school road race on Wednesday in Vieux Fort. District 8, comprising schools in Soufrière and environs, took six of the 12 podium places across four categories.

For District 8, Hakim Mondesir was first across the line, and won the Under-13 boys category. Under-11 winner Amir Octave was third overall, and third-placed boy in the Under-13 division, Kemm Deterville was fourth, whilst second-placed Under-11 boy Shavron Regis took sixth.

In the Under-11 girls category, Dreamer Longville and Hadassah Jules did a District 8 1-2, and Cianne Herman was fourth.

“Our athletes went out and showed what they are truly made of!,” said the District 8 Sports Office in a Facebook post. “They showed that hardwork and determination pays off! We are super proud of all our athletes for representing District 8 well!

The only category in which District 8 did not have a top-three athlete was Under-13 girls, where 

Anala William won for District 7, followed by Neah Mortley (3) and Danielle Lambert (1). Octavia Octave (6) was third in Under-11 girls. Aiden Biscette (6) was second in Under-13 boys, and Jahvis Emmanuel (1) was third in Under-11 boys.

156 athletes faced the starter, competing in Under-11 and Under-13 boys and girls. The three-kilometre race started in La Tourney / La Ressource and ended at the George Odlum Stadium, where athletes took a lap of the track.
