Nikita Placide of Cul de Sac, Castries, appeared before the First District Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, charged with an indictable count of burglary. Magistrate Raquel Trotman presided over the hearing.
The charge relates to an alleged break-in on February 16 at Bon Temps Shop in Cul de Sac, where EC$1 670 in cash and goods were reportedly stolen. The virtual complainant is Angus Joseph, and the prosecution is led by Corporal Chicot.
This was Placide’s first court appearance since his release on bail. However, proceedings were delayed due to a missing statement from the investigating officer in the case file. The prosecution noted that the file required review and approval by the officer’s supervisor before moving forward.
Chicot requested a final adjournment to complete case management and disclosure. The court confirmed that Placide had previously been read the formal charges and acknowledged understanding them.
The matter has been forwarded to the High Court for a sufficiency hearing. Disclosure is expected by Wednesday, May 14, ahead of the scheduled High Court hearing on Friday, May 30.
