The discovery of the body of a male on Monday in China Town, Marigot has left residents in confusion and shock.
The discovery, made along a road used as a shortcut, has raised concerns and speculation about the presence of gang violence, a situation locals say has been previously unheard of in their community.
According to the police, the victim, an unidentified male, was found with apparent signs of violence.
While authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the death, the nature of the injuries has led to suspicions of a violent crime.
The case has unsettled many, particularly as residents say that the deceased is not from Marigot.
One resident, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, expressed his concern about the incident, stating, “I’ll be honest, I didn’t hear any shots, but there were talks of shots in the area. Then to find out there was a body—it’s shocking because we don’t even know the person. Everyone is accounted for.”
The resident emphasised that Marigot is a close-knit community, and after checking around, residents confirmed that no one local was missing.
“We’ve done our checks. If anyone was missing, we’d know. And taking responsibility of persons that missing now and the person that we are seeing there, I don’t know that person at all.” the resident stated.
The presence of a violent crime in their neighborhood is deeply troubling for the residents of Marigot, who now feel an unexpected threat encroaching on their quiet community.
“We haven’t had issues like this for a while, and we’re not expecting them,” the resident continued. “But now that something like this has happened, we are concerned.”
Police have yet to release further details as the investigation unfolds.
