Guyana’s Public Works Ministry says British Airways has advised that all passengers stranded in Saint Lucia had arrived safely in Georgetown.
On Wednesday, the Ministry disclosed that it was actively monitoring the ‘significant disruption’ affecting passengers stranded in Saint Lucia and Georgetown due to the cancellation of British Airways flight BA 2159 on Monday.
The aircraft experienced unforeseen mechanical issues, a Ministry release said.
“Passengers originally scheduled to travel from Georgetown (GEO) to St. Lucia with onward connection to London Gatwick International Airport were accommodated on a British Airways flight that departed this evening,” the Ministry announced Thursday.
The Ministry responsible for Aviation said seven passengers could not travel on the departing BA flight due to the unavailability of seats on the evening flight.
However, the statement indicated that other commercial flights would have accommodated them on Thursday evening or Friday.
The Ministry expressed gratitude to the British Airways team for their cooperation in resolving the issue and ensuring the safe return of all passengers to their destinations.
“We also thank the passengers for their patience and understanding during this unforeseen circumstance,” it said.
British Airways announced the commencement of flights from Gatwick Airport to Guyana twice weekly on Monday and Thursday from March 27th, 2023.
The service to Cheddi Jagan International Airport also operates as a “tag on” on BA’s service from Gatwick to Saint Lucia.
