Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred will officially set for on the much-anticipated Road to Tokyo 2025 when she opens her outdoor season on April 5.
The 23-year-old Olympic 100m champion will headline the fourth edition of the Miramar Invitational, as confirmed by meet organisers, TC Management.
Opting not to defend her World Indoor 60m title, Alfred has been focusing on speed endurance so far this season. She’s set Saint Lucia national records for the 300m and 400m. After winning Saint Lucia’s first-ever Olympic gold medal in the 100 last year in Paris, she added a silver medal in the 200m. Coach Edrick Floreal made a point in the off-season that her training would be geared towards improved performance in the half-lap event.
The Ansin Sports Complex is known for its fast track. In 2023, reigning 100m World Champion Sha’Carri Richardson of the USA ran a blistering 10.57 at this venue, but with an incredibly stiff wind of over four metres per second. Abby Steiner won the 200m in a world-leading time of 22.23 seconds. It’s not known at this time what event Alfred will run, but it’s safe to say the Saint Lucian community is ready to support her to the fullest wherever she lines up.
“Get ready to bring the heat and make some noise because on Saturday, April 5, 2025, Julien Alfred—our very own Olympian, silver and gold medalist, and the fastest woman in the world—will be lighting up the track at the Miramar Invitational!,” read a Facebook post from the Saint Lucia Association of South Florida. “We need YOU in the stands to cheer her on, wave your flags, and show the world what Saint Lucian pride is all about!
“Let’s paint the grounds BLUE, YELLOW, BLACK, and WHITE! Wear your flag colours, bring your energy, and let’s give JuJu the loudest, most electrifying support she’s ever heard! Come one, come all—let’s rally behind our champion!”
The Miramar Invitational 2025 is a Silver event on the World Athletics Continental Tour. On June 12, Alfred will be competing at the Bislett Games in Oslo, followed by the Bauhaus Galan on June 15 in Stockholm. The World Championships are in September.
