Saint Lucian hip-hop artist Bill Sikka Stanislas has released a new single that puts a unique twist on a classic reggae song.
The single, Experience, offers a fresh take on Barrington Levy’s legendary 1998 hit Too Experienced. Sikka infuses the iconic reggae track with rap elements, creating a modern reinterpretation rooted in a deeply personal and challenging moment in his life.
“I was having a personal issue. The way I deal with issues is by writing music or poetry,” he explained. “I happened to be listening to old school music like Bob Dylan and came across this Barrington Levy song that I really love. I thought, ‘Let me put my own spin on this,’ and that’s how it came about.”
The Soufriere native admitted that he faced an uphill battle in adding new elements to the classic while maintaining its authenticity and soul. However, with the help of his team, the record came together.
“The only challenge was trying to put my own spin on it because it’s a reggae song and I’m a hip-hop artist,” he explained. “I wanted to change the vibe while still keeping the original feel. But we got through it.”
When asked what he hopes to achieve through this song, Sikka shared: “Everyone goes through relationship issues or faces situations where they want someone they can’t be with right now. I hope people who go through those things can really connect with the song.”
The Saint Lucian artist’s latest project can be streamed across platforms including YouTube, Apple Music, and Spotify. Interested listeners can also follow the artist on social media for updates on his live performances and other releases.
