Saint Lucia international defender Melvin Doxilly is on the move once again. This time the 27-year-old is going back to his old haunts, signing for Mount Pleasant Football Academy in the Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League (JPL).

Doxilly came to the JPL in 2020, joining Cavalier SC from Morvant Caledonia United in Trinidad and Tobago. Along with longtime Saint Lucia international teammate, goalkeeper Vino Barclett, he had an instant impact, helping the Kingston club win their first title in 40 years.

Despite that success, the Gros Islet-born defender was moved on to Mount Pleasant in 2022. The St Ann-based team emerged as champions of the 2022-23 JPL, beating Barclett and Cavalier 2-1 in the final at Sabina Park.

Cavalier won last year’s title, but Doxilly was moved on again, this time to Portmore United. In the winter transfer window, however, the 2023 champions have brought Doxilly back on a permanent transfer for an undisclosed fee.

“Yes, it’s an amazing feeling to be back at home and you know what makes it even better is the fans welcoming me back home,” said Doxilly. “I’m looking forward to meeting the new players in the team and bringing that same energy back into the team.”

A former youth international for Saint Lucia, Doxilly has accumulated 38 caps for the senior men’s national team. He has also recorded more than 70 caps with three teams in his sixth JPL season. He will be looking to win his third JPL title, with Mount Pleasant atop the table.

The versatile player has mainly slotted in at the heart of defence, but he has also played as a defensive midfielder, after starting his career as a right back.
