Special Prosecutor Robert Innocent in a letter dated November 26th, informed former Customs Comptroller Peter Chiquot that the complaints against the top brass of the government were without merit.

Chiquot had issued a host of complaints against the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and Attorney General, among others.

The complaints spanned victimisation to outright malfeasance on the part of the government officials.

Chiquot’s claims came against the backdrop of the criminal charges against Deputy Prime Minister Dr Ernest Hilaire being withdrawn by the current Customs Comptroller, in the matter of  the importation of a Land Rover in 2021.

Calling in on a radio programme on Wednesday, Chiquot expressed his dissatisfaction with the Special Prosecutor’s decision, asserting that justice needs to be served.

“Public servants need to be protected, the citizens need to be protected more than these individuals who are meandering their way, sneaking their way through the laws in order for them to escape justice. The persons who need justice in this country are not getting the justice that they need,” he said.

Chiquot promises that if returned into government, the United Workers Party (UWP) will see to it that justice is served.

“I am sending a message out that you see the next government, when the United Workers Party gets into government, these matters cannot go down that way,” he said.
