At the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force’s (RSLPF) last press conference, Deputy Commander of the Special Services Unit, Inspector Small, announced that the Special Services Unit would intensify patrols and its presence.

This announcement was followed by action. On Wednesday, 20 November 2024, at approximately 7:50 p.m., the Special Operations Team of the RSLPF conducted a series of exercises within the Babonneau area. A total of forty-three (43) motor vehicles were checked, five (5) tickets were issued, and one (1) vehicle was impounded.

Notably, during a vehicle search, the officers recovered one pistol with a magazine containing twelve (12) rounds of ammunition. The three (3) male occupants of the vehicle were arrested for possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition.

RSLPF operations continued into the early hours of Thursday, 21 November 2024. Following the Special Services Unit’s (SSU) response to a shooting incident, during a tactical patrol, the officers had cause to engage the two occupants of a motor vehicle. A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery and seizure of one (1) firearm with a magazine and ten (10) rounds of ammunition.

As a result, two males were arrested for the offences of possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition.

These targeted responses to incidents of gun violence, will continue throughout the country, to restore public safety. The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting the community.
