Schools’ Netball Tips Off Monday

The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, will get the 2024-2025 school sports programme underway on Monday, with the commencement of a two-tier netball tournament. In all, 15 schools will compete at three venues in the next four weeks.

Preliminaries for the inter-secondary schools’ netball first-team competition are scheduled to take place from Monday, October 21, to Friday, November 1. 10 schools in the Under-15 division and 12 in the Under-19 class will vie for playoff positioning.

Micoud Secondary School emerged victorious in the final of the 2023 U15 series, defeating defending champions Soufrière Comprehensive Secondary School 21-7.

This year, eight teams will challenge Micoud over five days at the Beausejour Indoor Facility. The preliminary round is set for November 1, 6, 8, and 11, with the semifinals, third-place playoff, and final scheduled for Thursday, November 14.

Participating schools include Babonneau, Castries Comprehensive, Clendon Mason Memorial, St Joseph’s Convent, Saint Lucia Sports Academy (SLSA), Sir Ira Simmons Secondary, STVI School of Innovation & Technology, and Vieux Fort Comprehensive.

In the Under 19 division, 12 teams will compete in two groups, with four teams from each advancing to the quarterfinal round, November 12 at the Vigie Multipurpose Sports Complex (VMSC) and the Micoud Community Court.

The semifinals are scheduled for November 15, while the third-place playoff and final on November 18 at a venue to be determined.

In Group A, matches will be played at VMSC. Babonneau Secondary, Castries Comprehensive, Entrepot Secondary, Leon Hess Comprehensive, St Joseph’s Convent, and Sir Arthur Lewis Community College will vie for those four spots.

Group B, which will play at the Micoud Community Court, will comprise Choiseul Secondary, Micoud Secondary, Soufriere Comprehensive, Stanley Jon Odlum Secondary, STVI School of Innovation & Technology, and Vieux Fort Comprehensive.

Defending champions SLSA are not registered for the U19 competition.
