The Saint Lucia Aquatics Federation is preparing to name a 10-member team for the XXXVIII CARIFTA Aquatics Championships in Trinidad & Tobago next month.

The team, which will compete in swimming April 19-22 at the National Aquatic Centre in Couva, will include three of last year’s four medallists, including both gold medallists.

In 2024, Antoine Destang left the Bahamas with double gold in the 50m and 100m butterfly, competing in the boys’ 15-17 division. He also took bronze medals in 200m freestyle and 200m individual medley, whilst Tristan Dorville got bronze in boys’ 15-17 freestyle. Junior Sportswoman of the Year, Fayth Jeffrey won gold in the girls’ 13-14 breaststroke, along with silver in the 200m version of that same stroke.

All three are slated to return, although Jeffrey will compete in the 15-17 division. Destang and Dorville will be joined in the 15-17 boys by longtime teammates Ethan Hazell and Karic Charles, with Charles into his second year at this level. Jayden Xu is also in his second year as a CARIFTA swimmer. Aaron Charles will debut, and veteran Noah Dorville returns to the team.

Fayth Lubrun is back on the team for her sophomore season, and the exciting young Sapphire Parks will make her much-anticipated debut.

Team Saint Lucia will be led by head coach Brian Charles, team manager Denise Parks, and chaperone Helen Lubrun. Saint Lucia finished in 10th place with 112 points on the medal table last year at the Betty Kelly-Kenning National Swim Complex in The Bahamas.

The CARIFTA Aquatics Championships is an annual, age-group aquatics meet for the Caribbean, under the auspices of CANOC, the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees.
